Whirlygig

July 26, 2010

For as long as I can remember I have been looking for a mechanism that is present on almost every fan that is used for cooling the area. The part I wanted was the mechanism that caused the fan to rotate back and forth to cover a wider area.

As many of you know I have been building wind mills or fans over the years and now have at least seven of them in operation between our two homes.  At one time the one in Florida had a small axe this would be lifted up and then drop onto a twig.  In a month it would cut the twig into.  It used an 800 to 1 gear reduction unit that I was told came from a Norton Bomb Site.  Unfortunatly I designed the cam wrong and it put too much strain on the unit and it eventually gave out.  Now it is just a four bladed fan.

At any  rate now I have a mechanism that will also allow a fan to do hefty things.  At this point I don’t have access to enough equipment to build what I envision but perhaps I can induce Ralph to come up with something special.  So here is the device I salvaged from the otherwise useless fan that had critical parts broken then prevented any reasonable repair.

And even more annivesary

July 25, 2010

One of the other niceties of an anniversary is the gift of a couple of bunches of flowers from neighbors and relation.

More Anniversary

July 23, 2010

We had a wonderful dinner at Gatsby’s restaurant on Center Ave on the night of our anniversary July 22 and hopefully I can upload a photo that one of the servers took with my camera.  It was a festive night and we asked our neighbors and Ralph & Annie Moll along with Colleen and Michael.

Anniversary

July 21, 2010

This is the picture that I tried to upload before and it failed to register.  Colleen and Michael are here for a visit and I got a little education in using this program..  She made an excellent supper from various items in the refrigerator that had to be either used or thrown out.  Of course the bottle of wine added to the festivities and we had a real fine supper.  Shortly after we finished, Shelley stopped by after work at the hospital and made some recommendations for our anniversary supper tomorrow night .

One Tall Ship

Still working on procedures for uploading photos so here is one I cropped that may show a little more of the detail

Tall Ships

July 21, 2010

In as much as this might be the last time for me to see these amazing ships I decided to have a look. Aileen left me off one Water Street and I spent about a hour looking them over. To show you the quirks of the mind I spotted one ship that had a name that started with Ronald. I had a young lady take a picture of me standing in front of my namesake ship only to find out after I loaded the photos into the computer that the name was not quite what I saw in my mind.

Operation

July 13, 2010

For the third time I have had my water works reamed out. Spent a day and night at the hospital and things seem to be returning to normal. It did interrupt my activities in returning to the YMCA after a gap starting in around 1987 after we started going to Florida for the winters. Am back on a regular schedule now using a variety of exercise devices to strengthen my muscles.

New Airport Device

July 13, 2010

One more thing that I left in Florida was the Airport WiFi device. I asked the lady who looks after the house to send it but she sent another item instead so I decided to buy a new one and it arrived today. It has another feature now that allows other users to use my printer. So far this feature has not worked but rather than mess things up before Colleen arrives for a visit I just put the printer cable back into the computer. I got the Airport working normally and she should now be able to use her computer through it.
